Send Anything to the Bottom of the Ocean and Back

The original public launch of Fathomdeep explored whether individuals and organizations would be interested in sending objects to the deepest parts of the ocean.

A Public Experiment

The original Fathomdeep launch set out to answer a simple question: would people pay to send objects to the deepest places on Earth?

While the campaign did not reach its funding goal, it demonstrated genuine curiosity around extreme depth environments, from researchers wanting to expose samples to crushing pressure to individuals drawn to the symbolic act of sending something to the absolute bottom.

The interest was real. The logistics remain an open challenge.

What the Campaign Showed

Demonstrated Interest

Backers and visitors showed genuine curiosity about the concept, spanning scientific, personal, and experimental motivations.

Validated the Question

The campaign confirmed the right question is being asked. Deep ocean access as a service is an idea people respond to.

Engineering Challenges Remain

Reliable, repeatable deep-ocean transport requires further R&D before it can be offered as a service. That work continues.
