The Work Continues

Fathomdeep is currently paused. Deep ocean logistics remain an open challenge combining engineering, exploration, and logistics.

Paused. Not Abandoned.

The Fathomdeep project is on hold while further research and development takes place. The core engineering challenges: pressure-tolerant capsules, reliable descent and ascent, and repeatable surface recovery, remain active areas of inquiry.

The Kickstarter campaign showed that the demand is real. The question is how to build a reliable system to meet it.

What Comes Next

Future development may include any combination of the following technical directions.

Open Challenges

01

Pressure Tolerance

Designing capsules that survive pressures exceeding 1,000 atmospheres and return payloads intact requires specialized materials and sealing systems.

02

Precision Recovery

Ascending from 11 km in open ocean requires reliable acoustic positioning and surface recovery in conditions that are rarely cooperative.

03

Repeatability

A single successful mission is not a service. Fathomdeep's goal is a repeatable, reliable system rather than a one-time engineering stunt.

04

Cost

Deep ocean operations are expensive. Making this accessible beyond governments and major research institutions requires solving the economics of the mission.
